Terms of use
Last updated: 20 October 2026
This is a translation. The German version is legally binding.
Scope
Purchasing and using Convertag through the Mac App Store is governed by Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement (EULA). These terms add points that arise from the nature of the app. If they conflict, Apple’s EULA takes precedence.
Service
Convertag converts video files on your Mac into MP4 files and adds title, description and artwork. Whether a file can be kept as is, adapted or not converted at all depends on its content; the app shows this before starting. There is no entitlement to every file or format being processed. Looking up title info is an additional service whose constant availability I don’t guarantee.
Your files and third-party rights
Only use Convertag for files you’re allowed to process. The app doesn’t circumvent copy protection and isn’t meant for that. You’re responsible for the content you convert and how you use it.
Back up important files before converting them. Convertag never deletes originals for good; at most — if you set it to — it moves them to the Trash, and only after the new file is finished.
Title info from third parties
Titles, descriptions, artwork and other details come from OMDb, Wikidata and, if you enter your own key, The Movie Database (TMDb). I don’t guarantee that they’re correct, complete or up to date, or that a match fits the video; if the app isn’t sure, it asks. Rights to descriptions and artwork belong to their owners. If you use TMDb with your own key, TMDb’s terms of use also apply.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Licences
Convertag includes FFmpeg under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1 and dav1d under the BSD 2-Clause licence. The FFmpeg libraries are separate, replaceable files inside the app. Licence texts, the configuration used and references to the source code are in the app under Convertag → Acknowledgements. These terms don’t restrict the rights granted by those licences.
Liability
I am liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence I am liable only if I breach an essential obligation on whose fulfilment you may rely, and limited to the foreseeable, typical damage. Otherwise liability is excluded. For loss of data I am liable only to the extent it would not have occurred with customary backups.
Privacy
What data the app transmits is explained in the privacy policy.
Changes
I may change these terms, for example when new features are added. The version on this page at the time of your use applies.
Governing law and contact
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country remain unaffected. Questions about these terms to hello@convertag.app.
